If you are planning on getting a dog and you wish to become a first-time dog owner/parent, this article could be worth your while. Some dog breeds are a challenge to cope with. Beagles, Mastiffs, Dalmatians and a lot of others are adorable and all but they are much more difficult to train than those breeds which we will feature in this article. So, without further ado, here are 10 dog breeds which are the easiest to train.

Poodles

We begin our list with a fan favourite. Originating from French royalty, the Poodle is a one-of-a-kind dog that’s loved both for unique aesthetics as well as high-level intelligence. Poodles are loyal, playful, friendly, great with kids and hypoallergenic. This means that they can live in households with allergic people and little kids too. Thanks to minimal shedding, great intelligence and an above-average instinct to please, the Poodle is easy to train and a great choice for a first-timer. 

Bernese Sennenhunds (Bernese Mountain Dogs)

These big, chunky fluff balls have fans around the world. It’s a unique looking dog that combines the lovability of a Retriever with the sheer size and responsibility of a Saint-Bernard. The Bernese Mountain Dogs (also known as Sennenhunds) are gentle giants which respond to you and won’t require too much physical activity. Thanks to their mild temper, their size isn’t an issue as they won’t show any aggressive tendencies or unwanted behaviours. Berners listen, behave and want to make you happy. Your goal with them is to do the same and utilise positive reinforcement to the best of your knowledge and ability.

Border Collies

These are a fan-favourite. Border Collie is a great choice regardless of your living environment and personality. Even if it’s your first dog, the Border Collie will make a wonderful addition to your home. It has high energy levels and is almost always in a playful and positive mood. You can train them to do all sorts of tricks, including the passing of agility tracks and courses. While this isn’t easy but it’s much easier than with most other breeds. In the end, a Border Collie can become your best friend without too much fuss.

Labs 

Both Labrador and Golden Retrievers are probably the most popular breeds in the 21st century world. They are easy-going, great with children, moderately active, easy to train and quite intelligent. A Labrador is always willing to learn and please you, so teaching and training will be a pleasure. Respond to them in the right way and watch them flourish in the best possible manner.

Rottweilers

Rotties can be aggressive and punish trespassers. They’re great guard dogs. Very strong, athletic and intelligent, the Rottweiler is widely used as a guard dog. However, many people don’t know that this aggressive behaviour can be curbed and managed thanks to proper training. Some Rottweilers are used as therapy dogs and they are near the very top of the list of most loyal breeds. However, you will need to spend a lot of time with them outdoors and playing quite physically demanding games to stimulate their body and mind. This is the only way a Rottweiler will respect you and become trainable. If you’re up for it – it’s no biggie besides that.

Doberman pinschers dog breeds

If you’re up for a challenge, the Doberman is definitely an excellent choice. Keep in mind that in the wrong hands a Doberman turns into a ferocious, aggressive fighting machine which is very dangerous to humans. However, if you socialise and properly train them at a young age, they won’t cause destruction and offer you love in bunches. They’re strong and excellent guards which means you can save costs on that house alarm system…

German Shepherds dog breeds

What a “surprise”. A German Shepherd on the list of easy-to-train breeds… Shocker, right? But in all seriousness, these dogs are one of the most popular breeds in the world and for good reason. They’re big and fluffy, which means that they’re great cuddling partners. They’re supremely intelligent which makes a German Shepherd an excellent guard dog. Some of them even have real-life jobs like Airport security, Border control, etc. These are the dogs which are widely used in service and are an excellent companion for you. Don’t let their size scare you – it’s very easy to train a German Shepherd. 

Australian shepherds dog breeds

Continuing in the theme of shepherds, the Australian shepherd is easily one of the most affectionate and lovable dogs in the world. You don’t need to be too strict or too lenient on these fellows, they adapt to your personality and most-importantly – eager to please. This means that the Australian shepherd wants and will put in the effort to make you smile, make you happy and force you to reward he or she with a nice word, a delicious treat or some petting. In fact, they are astonishingly intelligent, one of the smartest dog breeds in the world, so a new owner could be perplexed as the pup might think and react even faster than you do.

Corgi pembroke

They have some stubbornness and aren’t afraid to show it at the beginning. But if you remain a steady teacher and trainer, they can respond to commands as young as 2 months of age. While some barriers need to be broken down, once you form that connection, it can never be broken. Remember to be consistent and use positive reinforcement to get the best results. These pups may be miniature but they do have a strong personality.
