On this tour you will cross over the East (Windward) mountains, head up the East side to the North Shore, travel to the West end of the North Shore, before heading down the middle of the island and around to the West side. The North Shore does not connect to the West side, that road was destroyed by a hurricane in the early 90's, you must enter the West side from the South. It is very important that you follow the Recommended time at location suggestions. If you don't you will not make it to the last location before dark. And I do not recommend going to the last location while it's dark. Keep in mind that by staying an extra 5 minutes at every location would add 2 hours to your day. Below is a list of locations in order that you should do them. They are in order assuming you are starting from Waikiki (South shore). If you are starting from Turtle Bay, then you should start at #7 and work your way back around in order ending at #6. If you are staying at Ko 'Olina, then you should start at #21 and do it in reverse order. You can do #22 and #23 last. I recommend leaving your hotel no later than 8am and not expect to get back till 6 or 7 at night. I would leave by 7am just to give you more cushion. I also recommend reviewing each day at least once before you do it. Print out the pages to take with you. Also, those of you with smart phones, keep in mind that there may be certain locations that you wont be able to stream the YouTube videos embedded on the location pages because of bad cell phone reception. I have noted on each location page which locations are particularly limited as far as service goes. (FYI: I have an iPhone 4. You might have a different service that may or may not get reception at certain locations that I do/do not.) Also keep in mind that during the months of November-April it gets dark earlier than it does April-November. You assume all risk and responsibility while doing this guide. |
