drive beyond:
69-385 Farrington Hwy.
waialua, HI 96791
Directions: From Honolulu/Waikiki, enter H1 west, then take H2 North. H2 will end, and keep going straight. After the town ends, ignore the right turn to North Shore/Hale'iwa, and just go straight toward waialua and you will be on Kaukonahua Rd (803). Eventually the road will wind downhill with ironwood trees flanking both sides of the road. At the bottom, go through the yellow blinking light to Farrington Hwy (930). After a half mile there is a traffic circle-- go toward Mokule'ia under the bridge. Continue straight as you pass Dillingham Airfield on your left and Army Beach on your right completely. (By the way, the final airfield road to the left is the best access point to view the fuselage storage area). As the vegetation on your right ends and the beach becomes visible, continue straight past the civil defense sirens and green dumptsers on your left. These are landmarks which flag the post-pilot Mokule'ia beach locations at Tiger Beach. Soon you will see Camp Erdman on both your left and right sides. Continue past Camp Erdman, and park at the first available area as it ends.
Notes:
Camp Erdman was named for Harold Randolph Erdman, who was killed in 1931 in a polo accident after falling from a horse. Erdman was a nephew of Walter Dillingham, who owned the land. After his death, the Dillingham family renamed the property and donated it to the YMCA.
