The same cliff, from a slightly different angle. The cliff "edge" visible in the screencap is in the photo, but here is the second-from-right column of rocks. See detail of rock patterns below: |

At right is an expanded detail of the previous photo. Note the matching top contour, vertical creases, and the "E" shaped crease near the left center edge. STAY AWAY FROM THE EDGE! Jorge Garcia (Hurley) was digitally added into this shot by the FX department. |

Look eastward. On a clear day you will be able to see the islands of Moloka'i and Lana'i! |
|

Spectacular views are to be had along this trail. This view is from the final lookout. The three peaks of Olomana in Waimanalo are visible at center. |
|
|

An aerial view from the ocean. The lighthouse is visible as a white dot to the far right of the point-- therefore the hiking trail climbs the point to the right side of the pass. |

Directions:
From Waikiki/Honolulu, take H1 east. The highway soon ends and turns into Kalaniana'ole Hwy. Continue straight, staying in the right lane as you pass Hawaii Kai Rd. Continue straight, passing Hanauma Bay, the Lana'i Lookout pullover, Koko Head, Sandy Beach, and the traffic light at Kealahou St. Soon afterwards, the road will curve left and you will see hills on both sides of the road. Park at the large paved parking lot on the right side for Ka Iwi Recreational area. After parking, follow the paved trail.
To get to the cliffs, follow the Makapu'u Point Trail up until you see four cement markers on the right. Proceed 25 feet and enter to the right. Look for old chainlink fence posts. Follow to the edge of the cliff. BE CAREFUL. LOOSE ROCKS.
At first opportunity take the unpaved trail down towards the water. Follow for more than 1/2 mile until you reach the water. This area is located directly under the rock formation known as "Chair of Pele".
WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM THE EDGE...especially during high surf.
NOT SAFE TO SWIM.
