Phone:
YWCA: (808) 538-7061
Parking: Metered street parking only
Notes:
The Laniakea YWCA building was designed by Julia Morgan, the architect who also designed the famous Hearst Castle in San Luis Obispo, California. The Laniakea building was the first public building designed by a female architect in Hawai'i. Morgan also designed other YWCA buildings, stemming from her acquaintance with Phoebe Apperson Hearst.
While you are here, you shouldn't miss Iolani Palace of the Hawaiian royalty just across the street, the only royal palace in the United States. Tickets for the palace tour are limited, so buy your reservation first, then come down to Cafe Laniakea to wait. If the tours are sold out, there is a self-guided tour in the basement museum of the palace; European tourists should make sure to see the case display containing royal order medals from across Europe.
The YWCA is also a stone's throw from the historic Ali'iolani Hale (a small museum is inside) and Post Office building, both Lost filming locations.
