Lost Virtual Tour

We've posted our final batch of set photos from Kos Hummer Tours. Again as a reminder, we have a strict "no-spoiler" policy with such photos, which are always published after the episode is broadcast, with no exceptions.



To the right is the Lost film crew, probably at work filming Eko's funeral in Ep 3x06 I Do. This is ALSO the location of Jacob's shack, which we published one photo of a few weeks ago, but today we've added another side view of the set. We also have new photos of the tree the Monster smashed Eko into (right next to Jacob's shack!), the "mass grave" set from the Purge from the Moli'i Gardens fishponds, as well as new images of the submarine and the set's fake rocks blocking Hurley's van ride. Finally we updated our Judd Trail page, which is the hike in Nu'uanu that contains a ton of filming locations within 1 minute's walk from the road; our new updates on this short hike are from the latter part of Season 3.

Kos "Hummer" Tours has come through for us again, and provided us with a bounty of new photographs. Today we've published their photos from the campsite of the Others, where they abandoned Locke with his father tied to some ancient ruins in Episode 3x19, The Brig. There are even visible remnants of the numerous campfires created by the Lost crew from the filming of the episode.

It began with a prop. A poster behind Sarah as she visits Jack in the hospital reads "Ácido Fólico", or Folic Acid in Spanish. We knew this was probably not from the props department of Lost, because small hospital details like in previous episodes have been from the real life location itself, whether it be St. Francis Hospital, Kahuku Hospital, or the new University of Hawaii Medical School. This poster was a calling card that this scene was not filmed in Hawaii, although other hospital scenes from this episode indeed were. Confirming this hunch this week was DocArzt of Thetailsection.com, who discovered from Kristin of E! Online that this was none other than the set of Grey's Anatomy.

We'll also take this opportunity to repeat our standing request for readers to submit matching photographs for the Hawthorne City Pool in Hawthorne, CA, which served as the water tank studio in Season 1 before the Hawaii Film Studio's water tank was renovated. And our spin on why Charlie had to do what he did? So he could save a substantial investment, silly: the fantastic and expensive studio soundstage of the Looking Glass for Season 4!

We haven't had the chance to post the locations for the finale yet, but one observation is that some of the locations may be in Hollywood. As far as we know, there is no airline interior soundstage in Hawaii (unless one was jury-rigged), which means the opening scene was filmed in LA as were Lost's pre-crash Flight 815 interior scenes in previous episodes. This places Matthew Fox in LA so that some of his other scenes might also have been filmed there, for example the almost-suicide bridge with its girders doesn't ring a bell on O'ahu. Unless it's some obscure waterfront structure, it might very well be in LA because the view of the lights on the horizon are refracted realistically through his automobile windows, so the far background seemed to be genuine, and not CG. And for a stretch, Walt's closeup might have been filmed in LA too (saves him a plane trip), because it really looked odd and artificial, and why not show the greenery behind him as they did last episode when Ben was standing in the exact same location at the edge of the pit?



UPDATE: We have two sources placing the bridge at Whittier Blvd in Los Angeles as it becomes East 6th St. Thank you to LVT contributor 'Mike Nelson', who even matched some of the graffiti to satellite photos. DocArzt of thetailsection also pointed out the you can watch news report as Jack comes into the waiting room at the hospital: the tag line truthfully enough reads: "Action 8 News: Crash last night on the 6th Street Bridge".

Stay tuned as we'll post the locations for Episode 3x20 The Man Behind the Curtain later today. For now here's a location photo of a temporary roadside attraction built by the Lost film crew off Nu'uanu Pali Drive that appeared in last night's episode, courtesy of Kos "Hummer" Tours.

We've worked closely with Kos Hummer Tours to get access to Ka'a'awa Valley (aka Kualoa Valley) for some wonderful matching photos, but the deeper story is that Ed Kos knows his locations, both in and out of the valley.
He recently gave us four tips, one going all the way back to the Pilot episode of season 1. He even cracked one of our Ten Most Wanted, the first house of Anthony Cooper (Locke's father) from Ep 1x19 Deus Ex Machina, in Nu'uanu. In Season 3, he found an exact match to a bull, as well as to Juliet's medical kit tree, which is apparently located in the same valley that the Others pitched their tents in the last episode (Ep 3x19 The Brig).
