Notes The Royal School lives up to its name. It was founded in 1839 by King Kamehameha III. It began as a boarding school to educated the ali'i (Hawaiian royalty). Alumni include Queen Emma, Queen Lili'uokalani, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, Prince Kuhio, King Kalakaua, King Kamehameha IV and King Kamehameha V. In 1850 the school moved to this location.
