Notes Caution: We do not recommend going past the rock wall of the scenic lookout parking lot. Water conditions change depending on the wave season, the swell, tide, and especially the particular set of waves that change from minute to minute, and people have been swept away from the rocky coast and drowned. Also the area is very hard and sharp, with areas covered by treacherously slippery gravel, a dangerous combination. Also turning your back to the ocean (especially while standing on ground that is not absolutely dry) to pose for a photograph is unsafe. On a clear day, you can see the islands of Moloka'i and Lana'i on the horizon-- hence the name of this lookout. In the winter season from mid December through early April, look to the ocean for the spouts of humpback whales visiting from Alaska. Similar view from the top: At the parking lot, turn directly away from the ocean and look across the road. You will see Koko Crater, or Kohelepelepe. The color of the landscape will depend on the season, turning greener in winter, and dryer in summer. Of course a miniature palm jungle does not seasonally shoot up out of the brush. |

Notice the outcropping in the right foreground; its height in Lost was matched with that of the horizon. The horizon is the upper lip dropoff just after the parking lot lookout wall. |
![]() After Kelvin's accidental death, Desmond runs back to the hatch. The filming location is obviously the same as above, but horizontally reversed to depict this scene. |

Desmond's location in the screencap is at the far left edge of this photo; the Lost scene apparently used a wide angle lens. |

![]() Here the foreground is here at the Lana'i Lookout coastline, but the water, boat, and background cliffs were pasted into the scene from another filming location. |
|
![]() As Desmond turns away from the boat, notice the water has changed a darker color with waves; here the background is that of the true filming location. |
The other side of this point is Hanauma Bay. |
